Throwing spaghetti at the wall - Kathy's story
I met Kathy at the nail salon. She’s in her late 50s and is struggling to lose weight. She wants me to help her.
I got curious and started asking her questions about her health and what she’d tried.
She’s a chronic dieter. She jumps from one diet to another and is disappointed when she only loses a pound or two in a few weeks.
The latest diet she’s on is a recipe for failure. Eat fruit and do yoga one day, eat protein and lift weights another day, and fast on another day.
My head was spinning listening to her tell me about it. Who can follow something so extreme?
As I asked more questions, it turned out she’d had her gallbladder removed and had been diagnosed with non-alcohol fatty liver disease.
Of course, she wasn’t offered any supplemental support for the gallbladder removal. She’s likely struggling with digesting fats.
Her fatty liver diagnosis tells me that she struggles with blood sugar and cholesterol issues. The irony is her chronic dieting is likely contributing to her health struggles.
The real problem is that Kathy needs to learn to eat well-balanced meals of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. She needs to learn to tune into her body, see how she handles carbohydrates and fats, and make adjustments accordingly.
The yo-yo dieting is sending her on a blood sugar roller coaster ride that her body sees as a threat. I would encourage her to walk every day and do yoga once or twice a week.
I teach clients like Kathy how to eat real food week in and week out, whether they’re cooking at home or going out to a restaurant.
It doesn’t have to be hard or complicated, and there’s no more dieting.
Eating nourishing foods will help to crowd out the sweets and processed foods that Kathy is likely consuming.
Crazy diets like the one Kathy is on are just a path to not feeling well, throwing in the towel, and feeling frustrated.
If you’re struggling like Kathy let’s chat about it. I'd love to help you.
