The darkside of wellness; foundations over fads

Raise your hand if you are bombarded by all the wellness hacks on Instagram. 

 

  • Cold plunging
  • Infrared sauna
  • Rebounding
  • Dry brushing
  • Intermittent fasting
  • Meditation
  • Wim Hof breathing
  • Sound baths
  • Forest bathing
  • Supplements - so many supplements, right?

 

All this noise is a distraction.

 

These are fads over foundations.

 

Here’s the thing. There's nothing wrong with these wellness hacks.

 

None of them matter without addressing the foundations:

 

  • Are you hydrated?
  • Are you eating whole, real food?
  • Are you minimizing sugar?
  • Are you sleeping 7-8 hours a night?
  • Are you stressed out and living in fight or flight?

 

Let’s focus on what matters so that you have energy and feel your best.  That’s what you want, isn’t it?

 

The latest trendy supplement won’t fix poor food choices or lack of sleep.

 

If you’re living under stress, intermittent fasting or cold plunging will likely make you more stressed and frazzled.

 

I have a client who is juggling motherhood, a remote job, and caring for an elderly Mom.

 

She came to me wanting support with her nutrition and stress management.

 

What she discovered is that taking the time to sit down and eat real food and making sure she drinks enough water throughout the day gave her so much resilience and energy to deal with all the stressors life throws at her.

 

She said, “Being coached turned out to be self care! I leaned into it!”

 

We have a lot coming up in the next week: Halloween, a new moon, the time change, and the election.  

 

I'm sure you're feeling the tension in the air around the election. I am, too.

 

How can you lean into the foundations like my client did to help get you through the next week?

 

I’d start by turning off the news. It’s meant to keep you agitated and stressed, and it’s noise, just like all the wellness hacks running around Instagram.

 

Take a deep breath and drink a glass of water.

 

Get outside and enjoy sunlight after sunrise and before sunset. This will help your body adjust to the time change.

 

New moons are about releasing and letting go. What can you bless and release?
