How to Advocate for Your Health

autoimmune journey

There is no shame in your symptoms

Being tired, losing your hair and gaining weight is all part of being in your 40's. This is what my doctor told me. I decided not to listen. And I never went back to her.

We live in a culture that has taught women from a very young age that to be female is to live in a body that is meant to endure pain, feel bad and that we should ultimately disconnect from.

Over and over we're offered birth control pills to mask symptoms and to shut down our body's natural rhythm.  There are experts like Dr. Jolene Brighten and others who can offer a wealth of information on the side effects of birth control.

Masking symptoms with pharmaceuticals may solve your symptoms in the short term but often creates side effects that will only make you feel worse.

Reject the notion that aging means looking and feeling awful. You are not your symptoms. Walk away from well-meaning but ill-informed people who tell you this.

I've been in your shoes. The bathroom floor full of hair. Dragging myself out of bed after sleeping 10 hours. A body covered in guttate psoriasis. Weight gain that appeared seemingly overnight.

Find the root cause and figure out how to overcome it. If I can do it so can you. I promise. Seek out a doctor that will listen to you and work with you. It's not an overnight fix. It takes small, consistent daily changes but honestly that's most things in life.

I added collagen six years ago. My hair, skin, and nails have never looked better. It's consistent, daily steps that lead to big changes. It's my non-negotiable.

Always seek the guidance of your doctor or other qualified health professional with any questions you may have regarding your health or a medical condition. Never disregard the advice of a medical professional, or delay in seeking it because of something you have read on this Website.
