Are You Tired of Cooking?

weekly memo

Are you feeling overwhelmed by what to eat every day?  Do you have enough time to make food?

Probably one of the number one things I’m asked for is a grocery list or meal plan.  “Just tell me what to eat!”

My goal in working together is that you understand how to build a meal whether you’re cooking at home or going to a restaurant.

This is true food freedom and the ticket to great health.

In my mind, you have three options:

  • Buy groceries and cook from scratch
  • Buy groceries and assemble meals from premade options
  • Subscribe to one of the many food delivery services available that send pre-cooked meals using quality ingredients

What about ordering from Door Dash or Grub Hub? I understand that sometimes convenience is important, and I'm not here to take that away from you.

However, I want to help you find a sustainable, healthy solution for your daily meals. I understand that it’s not always realistic to cook your meals day in and day out.

Here are some ideas for food you can purchase and assemble from the grocery store. I realize that these may not be absolutely perfect in terms of ingredients or organic, but they’re better than fast food.

Perfection day in and day out isn’t realistic, and it creates a stressor.

Breakfast/Snacks:

  • Hard-boiled eggs (6 grams of protein/each) - in the refrigerated section of most stores
  • Greek yogurt (unflavored) (15 grams of protein) + fresh blueberries
  • Egg bites (Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Starbucks), check the label for the grams of protein.

Lunch/Dinner:

(Trader Joe’s has some good options in their refrigerated case that can be doctored and modified)

  • Rotisserie chicken (or Just Chicken at Trader Joe’s), a pre-made salad, or salad greens (I throw away the dressing as it’s usually full of sugar—buy a better-quality dressing like Primal Kitchen or Tessamae’s).
  • Kettle Chicken Soup (TJ)- add in some fresh or frozen spinach and heat on the stove
  • Grass Fed pre-cooked beef at Trader Joe’s can easily be added to a pre-made salad.
  • Kevin’s protein entrees (Whole Foods and Costco)—there are many options—heat and serve with salad greens, or buy chopped vegetables and steam, sautee, or roast them.

If you need some healthy starchy carbohydrates:

  • Trader Joe’s has cooked beets and lentils that can be added as a side dish or to a salad.
  • They also have frozen cooked rice that you can easily add to soup or serve as a side dish.
  • You can also purchase fresh fruit or berries to add to your meal.

Today, I watched a guy at the gym almost pass out in the middle of his workout. I heard him tell his trainer he had a banana and coffee because he didn't have time to eat anything else. Ugh. Please don't do this. You can read why here.
