I’m Elaine Morrison. I’m a Pilates Instructor and the creator of The Midlife Blueprint. I live in Los Angeles, California.
And I just went through menopause.
As soon as I started going through this transition, I discovered the following:
This can be a lonely place ...
It’s extremely difficult to get accurate and reliable information about menopause and perimenopause … even though there’s a lot of information out there on the Internet.
Doctors and other medical professionals can help … but they can only do so much … especially in a 15-minute appointment.
Many women feel dismissed or even ignored during this transition.
The most difficult part might be finding the right guidance about diet and exercise and its impact on this time of your life.
As I went through menopause, I was starting to notice major changes in every part of my life. But I was deeply committed to maintaining my health, my fitness, my looks, plus my emotional and mental health. I’m sure you’re the same way.
So I started reading and researching like crazy.
I made changes based on what I discovered and based on what worked. Trust me … some things I tried did not work.
Once I felt like I was making progress and was turning this time into a powerful transition, I started to share my experiences with friends.
Well … one thing led to another and I was encouraged to try to help as many women as possible. I created a community and information resource I called The Midlife Blueprint.
Before I describe how The Midlife Blueprint can help you navigate menopause, let’s go through what medical science says about menopause.
Why?
In my experience there are lots of misconceptions about how this impacts a woman’s health and wellbeing. A good starting point is understanding the facts about this transition.
What Really Happens in Menopause …
Menopause is defined as the point in time when our periods stop permanently. A woman going through menopause really has no way of knowing whether any given period is truly her last until a year has passed.
Menopause can start in your late 40s or early 50s but the average age is 51, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Menopausal symptoms can include:
Hot flashes
Night Sweats
Weight Gain
Insomnia
Disrupted Sleep
Brain Fog
Mood Changes
Vaginal Dryness
Dry Skin
Thinning Hair
Perimenopause is the onset of menopausal symptoms. During this time, it’s possible to skip periods and irregular periods can take place. However, it’s still possible to become pregnant.
You will start to notice changes in sleep, mood, and sex drive. It may become harder to lose weight and you may also feel that 10-15 pounds suddenly appears around your waistline … when nothing about your diet or exercise has changed.
Perimenopause symptoms:
Begin in the late 30s to early 40s.
Take place in the years leading up to menopause and last on average 2-8 years.
Missed periods due to skipped ovulation.
Changes in sleep, mood, and sex drive.
It may be harder to lose weight.
It may feel like 10 pounds suddenly appear on your waistline when nothing about your diet or exercise has changed..
Initially, progesterone begins to drop which leaves estrogen unopposed. This may cause heavy periods, sleep disruption, and brain fog.
A Huge Transition … With the Potential for Major Changes In Your Health …
It’s no great secret that menopause leads to significant changes. Some of these can be serious:
Heart and blood vessel (cardiovascular) disease.
Osteoporosis.
Urinary incontinence.
Sexual function
Most of the symptoms are less medically dangerous but still uncomfortable and difficult. However, by dealing with menopause the right way, it’s possible to avoid most serious menopausal symptoms.
I Dealt With Weight Gain … And You Can Too …
One of the most difficult symptoms can be weight gain. It seems that menopause instantly gives you an extra 10-15 pounds. How do I know? This happened to me … even though I had changed nothing in my diet or exercise program.
However, I’m happy to say I’ve lost that weight, improved how I feel, and successfully dealt with the symptoms of menopause.
And I want to share my experience, successes, and journey with you through The Midlife Blueprint.
